Hey Everyone!

Eid al-Adha, also known as “Bakra Eid,” is just around the corner, and we know you’re excited! This special time is all about family, friends, delicious food, and the spirit of sharing. But first things first: when are the official holidays?

Let’s get straight to it so you can mark your calendars!

Official Eid al-Adha 2025 Holidays in Pakistan

Good news! The government has officially announced the Eid al-Adha holidays for 2025. Here are the dates you need to know:

  • Saturday, June 7, 2025 (This is the first day of Eid!)
  • Sunday, June 8, 2025
  • Monday, June 9, 2025

So, that’s three official holidays for Eid al-Adha this year!

How do we know this?

These dates come from an official announcement made by the Cabinet Division back in December 2024. Plus, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (the moon-sighting committee) has also confirmed that Eid will fall on June 7th. They met recently (on May 27, 2025) and confirmed that the moon for Dhul Hijjah (the Islamic month before Eid) was not seen, making May 29, 2025, the first day of that month. This lines up perfectly for Eid on June 7th.

What About “Hajj Holidays”? Will We Get a Longer Eid Break?

This is a common question! Let’s clear it up:

  • Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It’s a very personal and sacred journey for Muslims who go there.
  • Eid al-Adha is a worldwide festival that happens on the 10th day of the same Islamic month (Dhul Hijjah) when Hajj is taking place. So, while they are connected, the holidays in Pakistan are for Eid al-Adha, not specifically called “Hajj holidays.”

Now, about that longer break:

You might be wondering if we’ll get more days off, especially since Saturday and Sunday are already weekend holidays.

It’s true! Many people are hoping the government might add Friday, June 6th, as an extra holiday. This day is known as the “Day of Arafah,” which is a very important day for Hajj pilgrims. If they do, it would create a fantastic long weekend (Thursday evening to Monday), perfect for travel or bigger gatherings.

However, this is NOT official yet. For now, the confirmed holidays are the three days mentioned above (June 7, 8, 9). If the government decides to add Friday, they will release a new, official announcement. So, keep an eye out for that!

What is Eid al-Adha All About?

Eid al-Adha is a very important Islamic festival. It reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim’s (peace be upon him) amazing devotion to Allah. He was ready to sacrifice his son, but Allah replaced the sacrifice with a ram.

During Eid al-Adha, Muslims typically:

  • Offer Qurbani (Sacrifice): Those who can afford it sacrifice an animal (like a goat, sheep, or cow). The meat is then shared with family, friends, and especially with those in need. This is a big part of the Eid spirit!
  • Pray Together: We start the day with special Eid prayers at mosques or open grounds.
  • Visit Family & Friends: It’s a time to reconnect, share meals, and exchange greetings.
  • Give Charity: Helping those less fortunate is a huge part of Eid.
